Yesterday afternoon, Toa Payoh Guitar Club (TPGC) hosted an educational Classical Guitar Ensemble Sharing and Networking session, bringing together passionate niibori guitar ensembles from Raffles Girls’ School, River Valley High School and a private Suzuki Guitar group.
Guided by the professional PIMA Guitar Quartet from the Philippines, the session offered a wealth of learning experiences through performances, constructive feedback, and valuable insights. Attendees also enjoyed a special performance by the quartet, sparking engaging discussions about technique, artistry, and the joy of collaborative music-making.
As Singapore’s longest-standing community guitar ensemble, TPGC is dedicated to creating meaningful opportunities for growth, collaboration, and shared learning within the classical guitar community. A heartfelt thank you to everyone who contributed to making this session an enriching success.
Special thanks to the Singapore Classical Guitar Community for their support in bringing this event to life. Here’s to more moments of connection and discovery through music!
April 2025 was a month filled with music, connection, and unforgettable moments for the Toa Payoh Guitar Club. Entertainment Time (ET) brought a series of remarkable gatherings where the sweet melodies of classical guitar resonated through our spaces.
ET wasn’t just about one performance; it was a series of lively jam sessions and heartfelt showcases of talent. Members of all ages came together to share their love for music in a relaxed and joyful setting. Whether it was lively, upbeat tunes or soft, soulful melodies, each performance brought a unique charm. These gatherings weren’t just musical; they were moments that celebrated the bonds between our members, their families, and friends. It was a true testament to the power of music in bringing people together.
If you missed these wonderfully vibrant sessions, we’ve got you covered. Our highlights video captures the magic of ET, showcasing the energy, creativity, and shared passion of the past month. Watching it is like stepping back into those unforgettable moments and feeling the music come alive all over again.
Join Us at Toa Payoh Public Library
We’re keeping the spirit of ET alive with an exciting live performance at the Toa Payoh Public Library on 21 June at 4 PM. This venue holds a special place in our hearts as it’s where the Toa Payoh Guitar Club began its story back in 1974. Nearly five decades later, we’re returning to this meaningful space to honour our roots and celebrate the music that has united us over the years.
This performance promises to be a celebration of our history and our future, offering a chance to experience the rich musical heritage and the vitality of our club today.
What’s Next?
The joy of ET doesn’t end here! We’re delighted to announce that more performances are in the works. Over the coming months, we’ll be bringing the magic of classical guitar to new locations across Singapore. These events will allow us to connect with even more communities and share the love for music that defines who we are.
For now, relive the beauty of April’s ET sessions by watching the highlights video, and don’t forget to save the date for our June performance. We can’t wait to share more music and create more unforgettable moments with all of you. See you soon!
This Valentine’s Day, our guitar ensemble brings you the timeless classic “Love Me Tender.” While this beautiful melody often evokes feelings of romantic love, we believe it carries a message that resonates far beyond that.
Through our music, we hope to remind everyone of the importance of showing care and concern, not only to loved ones but to every friend and person in your life. Love isn’t just about grand gestures – it’s in the warmth of a kind word, a thoughtful action, or simply letting someone know they matter.
May this Valentine’s Day and Friendship Day be a time to celebrate every bond and connection that fills your heart with joy. Take a moment to reach out, share a smile and show someone you care. Love, in all its forms, is a universal language and it always feels good to be loved.
Click play and enjoy the tender strains of our performance. May it bring a little extra love and warmth to your day!
With love, Your friends at the Toa Payoh Guitar Club
We are absolutely thrilled to celebrate our honorary member, Marcus Loh, sharing a special moment with his talented children, Jon and Abby Loh, in an intimate performance at home as a guitar trio! Music truly runs in this family’s veins—or more specifically, guitar runs in this family.
Marcus, Jon, and Abby all began their musical journeys right here with us at Toa Payoh Guitar Club. They’ve grown from dedicated members to extraordinary musicians, and we couldn’t be prouder! To top it off, Jon and Abby’s older brother, Kevin Loh, also started with our club and is now a professional guitarist, flying the Singapore flag high on the global stage. What an inspiration this family is to all of us.
Today, we invite you to sit back, relax, and enjoy the sweet sounds of Marcus, Jon, and Abby performing Jamaica Rumba from the comfort of their home.
Thank you, Loh family, for reminding us of the magic of music and the beauty of shared passion. Truly a legacy of strings and soul!
Yesterday, the Toa Payoh Guitar Club celebrated our Chinese New Year reunion in the most heartwarming and vibrant way! From engaging in lively CNY couplet guessing games to tossing yusheng (lo hei) with everyone sharing auspicious greetings, the event was filled with energy, laughter, and togetherness.
Our members truly made this celebration special. Some went the extra mile, carefully crafting the delicious dishes we enjoyed, while others put their creativity to work on the vibrant decorations that added so much cheer to the atmosphere. This display of teamwork and contribution perfectly reflects the spirit of our club.
What stood out the most yesterday was the shared camaraderie—a reminder that while practice sharpens our guitar skills, it’s the bonds we share that make our club so unique. And of course, amidst all the celebrations, we indulged in the joy of “making music” with food as well as strings!
Adding to the festivities, we also took the opportunity to record a special Valentine’s Day tribute in guitar ensemble style. Stay tuned for its release soon.
Here’s to many more moments of harmony and joy—both on our guitars and off-stage. Wishing all our members and friends a prosperous, melodic Lunar New Year!
Our very own guitarist, Lau Hon Sun, will be performing solo at this People Association event. His time slot will be from 1pm to 1.30pm. Do come and support his show.
